Are devotional videos an Indian trend?

  • 10 Apr, 2013

“That deep emotional conviction of the presence of a superior reasoning power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God” – Albert Einstein.

Even though we all share different beliefs and our perception of the Almighty may differ from person to person, almost all of our religious beliefs point to the One Omnipotent.

Our devotion, loyalty and love towards the One, Who is everywhere and Who controls everything - What can be a better way to express it than in a rhythm, a melody of life that when played can touch the very core of our hearts to purify our existence?

Music has always been believed to have great powers, mythically, even able to light lamps and bring down rains. Devotional videos provide an entirely different side to music that we may normally hear (depending of course on our own definition of normal).

They are the ones praising the work of the great One, or inspiring one to find the One within. Whatever their purpose maybe, they look to inspire people and at the very least take them away from the worldly worries of every day.

From Church choirs to Buddhist chants and from Bhajans to Qawwalis, devotion has always found an able ally in music, which lets our feelings flow through our body and mind, cleansing our thoughts and actions and letting us have a chance to live our life with a fresh zeal.

Often shot in a way that calms the mind and soothes the soul, with music playing lightly in the background; to sometimes loud chants and the sounds of bells that leave you in a trance - they differ only in method and not the purpose.

Crossing boundaries between philosophy and religion, these devotional videos inspire us to find the bigger purpose in life.
