Rikky James – "Scapegoat The Performance"
Rikky wanted a live performance with a bit of attitude and that’s what we gave him. This wasn’t your subdued acoustic live lounge, this was Rikky James live!
Accompanied by his sessions musicians Rikky came off not just as a singer but a singer who’s part of a band, giving you a taste of what it’s like to see Rikky live. To add character we set the video on the set of a shoot with the built set in the background, it was illuminated to be integrated into the video and give the shots added depth. We didn’t clean anything up, just added mike stands, a drum kit, speakers and other instruments.
To give smooth definition we chose to light from behind allowing the front visuals to be softer. Nothing too fancy for the grading in post, it was important for this to look real so a little touch up here and there.
Aside from the performance the use of camera movement had the biggest impact. Using a track we were able to add dynamic movement to the dynamic performances, picking up shots and angles unachievable with a static camera.
So sit back and enjoy (unless you’ve just watched it, then I suggest you watch it again).
