Summer Ball 2014 - Event Filming Video
The lights, the music, the atmosphere, the emotion. These are what we set out to capture for the epic 16hr long Roehampton Summer Ball 2014 and with acts such as Wretch 32, Rizzle Kicks, Professor Green, Scouting for Girls and Stooshie we had to rise to the challenge.
Having filmed this event before; we wanted this year to be its own creature so we decided to take a more alternative approach. Breaking the video into three parts (beginning, middle and end) the look played a major part of it. For part one the world was pale and dreamy through the use of lens bashing and magenta coloured lowlights. For part two the visuals moved out of the dream to become more realistic, the editing edgier. For part three the look became cinematic with the help of a sharp grade and anamorphic flares.
New innovations for this event video included the white board where people wrote “I heart U R” that was super cut together in a stop motion style. The photo booth this year was re-imagined as a glamorous video booth with the help of the ring light while still remaining fun with the addition of wigs, sun glasses and other fun props – it really added character. The GoPro opened up new windows of possibility allowing us to attach cameras to the bumper cars and waltzers.
The tracks that best articulated the feel of the event were Everything’s Embarrassing (Sky Ferriera) for the alternative dreamy beginning, Not Giving In (Rudimental) for when the cuts became more edgy and Wake Up (Arcade Fire) for the grand finale creating an explosive finish featuring the many faces of Roehampton in an emotive montage of the entire event.
