The first thing you should start with is setting your playlist. Make sure that you start and end your gig with fast and peppy songs. Also, come prepared for the gig. Conduct plenty of rehearsals and work on your stage expressions. Look confident and smile!

When performing, always keep an eye on your audience. Encourage them to clap and sing along when you see them tapping their feet and jiving to the rhythm. But never force them into a zone where they start feeling uncomfortable.

You should try to use the entire stage when performing. Singers should always move around, but solo guitarists can stay in the centre.

Always remember why your audience has come to see you live. Bring loads of energy with you and enjoy your gig. Show them your passion through your voice and expressions.

Even after the show interact with the audience. Tell them who you are, where are you going to perform next and ask them for their email addresses so you can send emailers. If you are selling some merchandise, make sure you point them in the right direction!

If you are performing a gig with other bands, you should try to communicate with them before the gig. It's common practice for bands to share equipment, but you need to agree on it before the gig and not on the day.

If you can, bring back-up equipment. You never know what may go wrong on the day!

Arrive well on time so you can do a short rehearsal backstage and also work with the sound engineer to conduct soundchecks. If you are late and hold up the show, you will leave a bad reputation with the organisers.

Telling your audience a bit about the song is okay once in a while, but don't make it a habit. Your audience might be turned off if you doubt their sense of interpretation. Let them come to a conclusion on their own as you express yourself with music.

You can also learn from others. Watch other bands play live as often as you can and you'll surely pick up something new.
This is your opportunity. It makes sense to make the most of it!
Having your gig filmed so you can watch your performance afterwards is also a good idea.
