Fun. ‘We Are Young ft. Janelle Monáe’
Hair pulling, broken glass, food fights and fist fights. Sounds like the it’s all kicked off at the local saloon; no wait, it’s Fun.’s music video ‘We Are Young’.
This is not a new music video but I don’t care, it’s awesome. The use of super slow motion for both the bar brawl and band’s performance creates a sense of constant excitement and anticipation making me ask where’s it all going? What’s going to happen next? With so much action occurring on screen the use of slow motion also allows us to take in everything that’s going on, brilliant and clever.
Low key lighting on the bar brawlers and high key lighting on the band separates them from the carnage, but not completely, making sure we know where the “show” really is. The velvet rouge colour scheme seems to work alongside the lighting providing a certain sense of sex and danger.
Janelle Monáe’s appearance is so beautiful and amazing with the effect of having a still, clean and beautiful subject amongst a grand brawl.
This is one of those Music Videos that leave me wondering “How the hell did they think of that?” Over 112million views and still worth watching.
